Senior Project - Character Designs

I'm revising an earlier character to star in my upcoming senior film. So I was doing some designs to try and discover how she should look. It's still in progress; I haven't locked down the proportions yet.

Sketchbook - Building Design

I was having problems designing the city for my upcoming senior film, so I decided to do some quick sketches of real buildings that matched the style I was going for. I'm liking the sail shapes and arched entrances.

Sketchbook - Shells

I was having problems trying to think of shapes to use when designing underwater buildings. So I thought that doing some sketches of shells might help, a little. Maybe it didn't help too much, but it was kinda fun.

Not having a beach nearby, I instead went to the library and picked up The Book of Shells, and drew the ones I that caught my eye.

Side Projects 01 - Old Short Film Concept Sketches

Over the summer of 2011, I was actively trying to come up with an idea for a story to animate. After dozens of lousy storyboards and ideas, I settled on this one, which I also later abandoned. There were tons of issues with the story, most of which would require a complete overhaul. I did not think it was worth it, and went on to work on better things.

I made over 1000 concept sketches for the project. Below are a few select samples.

First are some quick composition and environmental studies:

Next up are some face/pose sketches. I would draw as many versions of the expression/pose as I could until I found the one I wanted. For comparison, I included the corresponding "final" storyboard panel.
